Governor Signs Legislation to Protect RV Tenants in Imperial Beach

For immediate release:

(Sacramento) The Governor recently signed legislation by Assemblymember David Alvarez (D-San Diego), Assembly Bill 1472, which provides tenant protections for mobilehome park residents in Imperial Beach.

“This bill closes a loophole that has prevented residential RV Park tenants, many of which are vulnerable and live on fixed incomes, from obtaining common tenant protections,” said Assemblymember Alvarez. “At a time when our state is experiencing a deep housing affordability crisis, we should not be evicting tenants who are able to abide by all other rules including paying their monthly rent.”

AB 1472 prohibits a person from requiring an occupant, tenant, or resident in a recreational vehicle (RV) park located within the City of Imperial Beach to reregister if the purpose of the reregistration requirement is to prevent the occupant, tenant, or resident from gaining or maintaining status as a resident.

“Housing is a fundamental necessity and we applaud the passage of AB 1472,” said Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre. “We need to take any step possible to increase the stability for all residents, especially our most vulnerable populations who work hard to secure a roof over their head. The actions within this bill will remove needless loopholes that will help retain tenancy and build stronger communities.”
