Assemblymember Alvarez Statement on Passage of State Budget

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO) – The following is a statement by Assemblymember David Alvarez (D-San Diego), regarding the Legislature’s vote yesterday approving the 2022-2023 state budget agreement between Governor Gavin Newsom, the State Assembly, and State Senate.

“The state budget that the Legislature has approved makes historic investments in communities across California including record-breaking investments on both K-12 and higher education which is a critical investment in our future.”

To support our state’s recovery from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this budget also increases annual funding for our small businesses and provides $9.5 billion in tax refunds to millions of California’s working families. More than 23 million Californians will receive direct payments of up to $1,050.

I am pleased to support state budget funding increases to childcare, addressing the housing and homelessness crisis, and critical transportation and infrastructure improvements. This budget is also fiscally responsible by adding $12 billion to budget reserves, bringing total reserves up to $37 billion.

These investments will have a real, tangible impact on hundreds of thousands of constituents in my district and tens of millions of people across California.”
