Assemblymember David Alvarez Sets Legislative Hearing Regarding Sexual Harassment at California State University

For immediate release:

(Sacramento, CA) – Today Assemblymember David Alvarez (D-San Diego), Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, announced the scheduling of an oversight hearing regarding sexual harassment complaints at California State University (CSU). The Joint Legislative Audit Committee, along with the Assembly Higher Education Committee and Senate Education Committee will hold this hearing on August 31 at 2:00 p.m.

“The recent state audit included findings that California State Universities are not doing enough in investigating sexual harassment complaints,” said Assemblymember Alvarez. “Our Universities must be a place where students and faculty have a safe environment to study and work. As the audit noted, meaningful system wide changes need to take place at the CSU. That begins with allegations being investigated in a timely manner and disciplinary action needs to be consistent”

The hearing will be an opportunity for CSU to respond to legislators’ questions regarding sexual harassment allegations and investigations. Additionally a discussion will take place to address the recommendations of the audit by the California State Auditor.
