(Sacramento) - Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-San Diego) had the State Assembly adjourn its January 17th floor session in the memory of community activist and musician Ramon Chunky Sanchez. As a college student in the 1970s Sanchez was part of the effort to create San Diego’s Chicano Park, near the Coronado Bridge, that was recently designated a National Historic Landmark. “He effectively used his music to promote social activism and further the Chicano civil rights movement in addition to the farm worker movement,” Assemblywoman Gonzalez Fletcher said. “In fact, Cesar Chavez loved his music so much that he often invited Chunky to play at the United Farm Workers union rallies.” Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
