Lorena Gonzalez Statement on Governor’s Revised 2020-21 State Budget Proposal

SAN DIEGO – (Thursday, May 14, 2020) – California State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) made the following statement today after Governor Gavin Newsom announced his updated 2020-2021 State Budget proposal, also known as the May Revise:

“These budgetary times are especially tough. Nonetheless, making cuts across the board to worker pay should be our last resort. Our lowest wage workers, many who work jobs now considered essential to our economy, were barely making ends meet before this pandemic. It’s great the Governor wants to stay the course on seeking to increase the minimum wage. But many lower wage civil servants also can't bear a reduction in salary. It would be catastrophic if we exacerbated our shameful levels of income inequality during these times.”
