Lorena Gonzalez Honors Nora E. Vargas as the 80th Assembly District Woman of the Year

SACRAMENTO -- (Monday, March 4, 2019) -- California State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D - San Diego) released the following statement today in recognizing local leader Nora E. Vargas as the 80th Assembly District’s Woman of the Year:

Nora Vargas is Vice President of Community and Government Relations for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. She serves on Southwestern Community College District’s Governing Board and the California State Teachers Retirement System Board – the first Latina to do so. She is passionate about equitable representation and mentoring young women leaders.

“Every community needs individuals like Nora Vargas. Whether it’s her work with Planned Parenthood or her role as a leader at Southwestern College, Nora has been fighting to empower the South Bay’s working families throughout her career,” Assemblywoman Gonzalez said.

The annual Women of the Year ceremony is celebrated every March as part of the commemoration of Women’s History Month. The event was founded in 1987 and is hosted by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus.
