SACRAMENTO – (Thurs., May 23, 2019) – A package of legislation championed by California State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) to provide a basic level of support for working women passed the State Assembly this week. The package that now heads to the State Senate includes bills to prevent sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace and to make paid family leave within reach of more women.

SACRAMENTO – (Thursday, May 16, 2019) – California Assembly Appropriations Committee Chair Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) made the following statement upon adjournment of the Assembly Appropriations Committee Suspense File hearing. In total, 721 bills were considered and 472 advanced.

“Today the Appropriations Committee considered 721 bills authored by my Assembly colleagues, the most legislation to qualify for the committee’s suspense file in the last decade.

SACRAMENTO – (Thursday, April 25, 2019) – The California State Assembly approved legislation calling for a statewide ban on commercial fur trapping. Assembly Bill 273 authored by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) on a 49-18 floor vote this morning.

“This unnecessary commercial activity is both cruel and insolvent,” Assemblywoman Gonzalez said. “California’s fur trapping program has long faced a funding shortfall. Taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidizing the destruction of our wildlife.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – As California state health officials grapple with containing the outbreak of measles, Senate Bill 276, authored by Dr. Richard Pan, a pediatrician and state senator representing the Sacramento region and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, representing the San Diego area, was passed by the Senate Health Committee. SB 276 will strengthen oversight of the medial exemption process, which some doctors in the state are abusing by selling medical exemptions to parents.

SACRAMENTO – (Wednesday, April 24, 2019) – More California workers would be empowered to use the state’s landmark Paid Family Leave program under legislation authored by California State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) that guarantees 100 percent income replacement. On Wednesday, the Assembly Insurance Committee passed Assembly Bill 196 on a 12-1 vote.
