Governor Signs Vote By Mail Bill Joint-Authored by Lorena Gonzalez

Thursday, June 18, 2020

SACRAMENTO – (Thursday, June 18, 2020) – Today California State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) released the following statement after the governor signed into law Assembly Bill 860, by Assemblymember Marc Berman (D-Menlo Park) and joint-authored by Assemblywoman Gonzalez, to require every voter in the state receive a mail-in ballot for the November election:

“There is no safer place for voters to cast their ballots than inside their home. Long before this pandemic, we have passed laws in California to eliminate vote by mail barriers—we have pre-paid postage on mail-in ballots and voters are empowered to designate an individual to return their ballot if they aren’t able to. Now, it is imperative that every registered voter receives a mail-in ballot for this November’s election, and I’m thankful the governor has signed our legislation today to make that happen. Along with multiple and early voting locations, these measures together will ensure all voters are able to safely participate.”
