SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, the Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), issued the following statement on behalf of the Caucus on California Attorney General Xavier Becerra delivering the Spanish-language response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address:

As a Caucus, we can think of no one better to deliver the Spanish-language response to the State of the Union than our very own Attorney General Xavier Becerra,” Chairwoman Gonzalez said. “We encourage all Californians to watch Attorney General Becerra’s rebuttal to the President. Our Caucus has been deeply troubled, but sadly not surprised, by the Trump Administration’s relentless attacks on California values. Attorney General Becerra has been a champion for California in defending our community against federal attempts to undermine our way of life. We look forward to joining the rest of America in watching the stark contrast between the tragic and hateful policies of Trump and the progressive values and hopeful vision Attorney General Becerra will outline as he speaks tonight.

The California Latino Legislative Caucus serves as a forum for members from the State Senate and Assembly to identify key issues affecting Latinos and develop avenues to empower the Latino Community throughout California. Following in the footsteps of generations of pioneering Latinos who settled and helped build this great state, Latino legislators united in 1973 to maximize their power notwithstanding their limited numbers. Since its creation 46 years ago, the Caucus has grown in both numbers and stature. There are now a record 33 members of the Caucus and more than half of the legislative members are women. The Caucus boasts a rich history of empowerment, legislative and political success and serves as one of the most influential and strategic organizations in California.
