Please join Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) and State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) for a joint legislative informational hearing by the Assembly Select Committee on Women in the Workplace to examine the next steps California should take to improve its Paid Family Leave Program at a time of growing inequality.
Assemblywoman Gonzalez, who chairs the Assembly’s Women in the Workplace Committee, authored legislation (AB 196) this year that would have made the program more accessible for working class Californians by increasing the wage replacement rate for Paid Family Leave. Earlier this year, Governor Gavin Newsom convened a Paid Family Leave Task Force to design a policy and funding roadmap to achieving the Governor’s vision for providing all California newborns with six months of bonding time with their parent, which includes lifting up the wage replacement rate.
